Racing for Rosabel: 2 Years of Fashionable Fundraising!
Not long to go now ’til this year’s Racing for Rosabel fundraising event. Get off to a galloping
start on Tuesday, 30th July. Punters can expect to enjoy a drinks reception, delicious canapés,
live music, racing tips from our pundits and fashion advice from their style experts.
The Galway Races has always been renowned as a haven for the fashion savvy, with ladies
saddling up for a week of sporting glamorous outfits, larger-than-life headpieces, colourful
accessories and hopefully sunglasses. The Skeff Bar, located right at the heart of Eyre
Square, will be the watering-hole for locals and visitors aplenty. Join the team on the Tuesday
for their fashionable fundraiser Racing for Rosabel; dress to impress and be in with a chance
of winning some incredible prizes.
In advance of this year’s Racing for Rosabel fundraiser, we caught up with a few of the
fashionable judges to gain some style tips ahead of the event.
According to Orlagh Winter’s, columnist for Tralee Today, notes that the main do’s for
dressing on the day is to wear colour to catch the judges’ eyes, don’t be afraid to stand out,
accessories are key and remember that comfort is paramount to enjoying your day at the
racecourse. A few no-no’s Orlagh has seen throughout her years of race-going are fake tan
disasters and ladies walking like a baby giraffe in uncomfortable, skyscraper heels.
Speaking of her experience with The Galway Races, Caroline Downey of Carried Away PR
noted that it is her favourite week of the year. “My biggest piece of style advice is to dress for
your shape, no one else’s. We are all uniquely different so one outfit on me can look so
different on someone else. Be yourself, dress for yourself and be comfortable, if you don’t
feel comfortable you will look uncomfortable.”
Mary White of Mary White Millinery is no Races amateur, having created numerous bespoke
headpieces and hats that have graced the heads of many racegoers throughout the years.
When selecting a headpiece, Mary has some expert advice: “I feel it’s extremely important to
consider the client’s face shape, overall body shape and their height. Of course, you must
compliment the outfit also.”
Racing for Rosabel proceeds will be donated to local charity Rosabel’s Rooms, which helps
to provide comfort and support for grieving parents and families suffering through child loss.
Tickets are available to purchase from Eventbrite or at Skeffington Arms Hotel reception:
